Some rules the Mug sets and then ignores when on the punt.

Never punt in a 2YO race

Never punt on a first starter or a race with first starters

Never punt on a horse returning from a spell

Never take odds of less than 5 to 4

Never punt on a horse trained by Darren Weir

Never punt on El Segundo 3rd up in a preparation

Never punt on a race you can’t watch

Never punt on a weekday (with obvious exceptions - public holidays, group 1 races, when in attendance)

Never bet each way

Never bet when the pool is less than 6 figures

There are also some philosophies of self belief

Never believe that you can win on the punt

Never believe that you have any knowledge about what may happen in any given race

Speak loudly and boldly that you know exactly what will happen in every race
